Social Security Law

Long, Knight, Huff-Harris & Hagan, P.C. can assist you with your Social Security related matter. No person expects to become disabled, however, when that happens you should optimize your government benefits so that you and your family can continue to pay your bills. Our attorneys can help you with the Social Security application for eligibility. We can also appeal a denial of benefits on your behalf or represent you during a scheduled interview, hearing or court appearance.

If you are eligible for benefits, you are able to receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) as well as Supplemental Social Security Income (SSI) benefits. Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Social Security Income are provided by the Federal government to those individuals who have severe medical conditions that render them unable to perform the duties of any past job or any other type of regular employment. The amounts of benefits you receive depends on your age and your average earnings during the time you have worked over your lifetime.

The process for getting approved for benefits can become very complicated. Upon disability, you must file a claim with the Social Security office and wait anywhere from three to six months for a reply, however, sometimes the reply will come sooner. If you are denied, you will have the right to file an appeal for reconsideration. To file an appeal for reconsideration, you must submit additional applications along with additional evidence detailing your disability and then wait another three to six months for a decision. If the Social Security Administration denies your claim for the second time (which is not unlikely, especially if you are unrepresented), then you must appeal to an Administrative Law Judge. Keep in mind that there is a long waiting period before cases are even heard by the Administrative Judge. Having an attorney represent you in your claim allows you to submit a full and complete record and increases the chances of you receiving an approval earlier on in the process.

With Long, Knight, Huff-Harris & Hagan, P.C., you are in good hands. We know the Social Security process, and can represent you before the Social Security Administration to ensure that you receive all of the benefits you deserve. Contact our law firm today for your complimentary consultation.
